Question 1

What is the difference between translation and localization for Italian?

Accepted Answer

Translation converts text from one language to another while preserving meaning. Localization adapts the entire product or content for the Italian market - including UI strings, date and number formats, currency, cultural references, tone of voice, and regulatory wording - so it reads as if it were originally created for Italian users. At Albatros we handle both: document translation and full software, UI, and content localization.

Question 2

How much does Italian translation cost?

Accepted Answer

Cost depends on word count, subject complexity, file format, and turnaround. Specialized content - medical device IFUs, regulatory documents, software UI with context - costs more per word than general marketing copy, because it requires domain expertise and terminology control. We quote per project after reviewing the source files. For an indicative range: our minimum engagement is typically a few hundred euros; large ongoing localization programs are priced per project with volume terms.

Question 3

Do you use machine translation or AI for Italian content?

Accepted Answer

We are an in-house human translation team. Every project is handled by a native Italian translator with domain specialization, reviewed by a second in-house linguist, and quality-assessed before delivery. We are familiar with CAT tools and translation technologies - including tools that incorporate machine translation - and we can work within workflows that use them, but our core deliverable is human translation by a stable in-house team, not machine output.

Question 4

Can you translate medical device documentation and IFUs into Italian?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Medical and pharmaceutical content is one of our four specializations. We translate device texts, regulatory documents, clinical content, and instructions for use (IFUs) into Italian. Our translators hold translation studies degrees with domain specialization, and our quality process includes a second in-house linguist review. We are familiar with the terminology and document types common in medical device work.

Question 5

What is the difference between a freelance translator and an in-house translation team like Albatros?

Accepted Answer

A freelance translator is a single individual - great for a specific project, but if they are unavailable, overloaded, or leave, your work stops or restarts with someone new. An in-house team like Albatros gives you the same translators on every project, consistent terminology, shared glossaries, a second-review process built in, and coverage when one team member is out. For ongoing programs with multiple products, languages, or release cycles, that stability is usually the difference between translated and localized consistently over time.

Question 6

Do you localize software and apps into Italian?

Accepted Answer

Yes - software and IT localization is one of our core specializations. We handle UI strings, help documentation, release notes, knowledge base content, and localization files for software products. Our translators are proficient in the CAT tools your localization workflow likely uses - memoQ, SDL Trados Studio, Catalyst, Passolo, Wordfast, WorldServer, Smartling, Plunet - and we work with the file formats and context your developers need.

Question 7

Where are you based, and what are your office hours?

Accepted Answer

Albatros Soluzioni Linguistiche is based in San Lazzaro di Savena, Bologna, Italy. Our team of five full-time in-house native Italian translators works from a single office. We are available to start new projects year-round and our office does not close for prolonged periods, so requests are handled expeditiously during and around office hours.
